National Safe Work Month is a time for businesses to assess their commitment to the safety of their workers. Brenniston is on a mission to make Australia safer by spreading the safe work message and reminding employers about the consequences of being ill prepared.

- A reported 531,800 persons sustained a workplace injury in Australia between June 2013 - June 2014. 1

According to national regulations, all workers must have access to a first aid kit. The contents should be based on a risk assessment of the nature of the work, the hazards, size, location and the nature of the workplace, and the number and composition of the workers there.

In recognition of National Safe Work Month, here are our tips for identifying hazards at your workplace:
- Inspect the physical work environment, eg. stairs, noise, lighting, hygiene.
- Check equipment, materials and substances used eg. machinery, chemical handling, faulty electrics.
- Consider work tasks and how they're performed eg. lifting, physical repetition, food handling.
- Examine work design and management, eg. shift work, deadline pressures, workstation set-ups.
Once you've identified the hazards, follow through by assessing the risks, implementing effective ways to control them, and planning for regular reviews.
