Helping save Australian lives is easy

Calling Triple Zero for minor injuries is killing Australians

Over the last few years, there has been a growing awareness in highlighting the importance of redirecting non-emergency Triple Zero calls so that emergency services can focus on saving lives.

Brenniston believes it's important to share this message and educate Australians about when to call emergency services; and when to treat minor injuries at home with practical first aid applications.

Ambulance Victoria has saved an extra 39 people whose hearts had stopped beating, by requesting that non-emergency Triple Zero callers make their own way to the hospital, see their personal GP or treat their injuries at home. An additional 7000 critical patients have been treated in time thanks to these new measures. If you are unsure of what constitutes an emergency Nurse On Call is available 24 hours a day on 1300 606 024.

Some examples of emergencies where Triple Zero should be called include:

  • Chest pains or chest tightness
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Extreme pain
  • Large burns
  • Serious trauma or accidents
  • Severe bleeding
  • Sudden numbness or paralysis of the face, arms or legs
  • Unconscious

Each of these non-life-threatening injuries can be treated by a GP or effectively managed at home with a Brenniston first aid kit. See our collections for the kit that is best suited for you.

Never hesitate to call Triple Zero in a life-threatening or medical emergency, and help make Australia safer by keeping a first aid kit at work, home and on the road.
